It’s pathetic and I do not buy such product (I vote with my moula). I really think the gov’t of canada/quebec should open a hotline to report such products. Then require they be properly translated or have them removed from market. Why not fine them if it’s blatantly obvious they used a machine translation? As Rene Ledrunkdriver showed us, the problem is obviously more complex than it appears. I’ve lived in the US for almost 10 yrs now and I hardly ever see such mistakes on american products here obviously packaged for export to canada. Sadly, you mostly see stuff like that from product coming out of english canada – most often ontario. This is hardly surprising given the “love” folks have developed mostly out of pure misinformation, stereotypes or ignorance of their french speaking patriots – and there are more than any anglo would be willing to believe. Anyone doubting this should note that “les canadiens” were the original canadians – proud of their country, singing o’canada for nearly 100 years before/ whilst anglos sang “god save the queen”. We must also see that the media on both sides has done an incredible job of creating animosity between the two official peoples over the decades, even centuries. If you never hear anything good about someone… I’ve lived all over canada and, as a french speaker, I rarely ever heard anything positive about the frenchies. The quebecers seemed slightly more informed, though the media/gov’t there has created a lot of bad blood obviously. Ignorance is certainly not bliss in canada. The vicious circle must to stop. I think the separation problem is more a problem of respect and if everyone started listening and being nice to each other, we would have no one with reason to separate. Instead we would have a rich culture and a prosperous nation that would be the envy of the world. Go canada!
